The small community of William Creek played host to camp drafters and bronco branders from throughout the state and Queensland at their annual Campdraft and Bronco Branding event held on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th September 2005.

CAMPDRAFT RESULTS

Friday morning saw campdrafters cutting out cattle from a “camp” before attempting to put them through a course on the arena. The William Creek Novice Campdraft was won by Corey Ferguson, Nth Moolooloo Station Copley. Second was Adam Litchfield, Wilpoorina Station, Marree and third was Robert Baker from Sandringham Station, Qld. Top Cut Out in the Novice Campdraft was shared by Robert Baker and Randall Crozier Anna Creek, First and Second in the Lake Eyre Open Campdraft Bevan Roberts from Victor Harbour. Bevan was also Top Cut Out winner.

In the Junior events, William Clarke from Allandale Station Oodnadatta won the Merty Merty Pastoral Junior Draft, followed by Chloe Nunn, Macumba Station in second and Tom Crozier, Anna Creek came third.

The McLachlan Engineering Juvenile Draft was won by Robert Baker, Sandringham Qld with Todd Williams, Mt. Barry and Emily Sims, The Peake, equal second.

BRONCO BRANDING RESULTS

After a night of revelry in front of the William Creek Hotel where patrons danced to the music of the BC Boys, everyone gathered again on Saturday at the Gymkhana complex for the Bronco Branding.

The Landmark Singles competition was won in a time of 6.08.03 by the team of Jason Jones, Arckaringa Station who was catcher, with a ground crew of Cameron Williams, Mt. Barry, Matthew Williams, Hamilton, and Paul Abbott, Nilpinna.

Tony Williams, Mt. Barry, together with his children Elizabeth, Patrick and Todd were second and Eddie Nunn’s Macumba team consisting of Eddie and Justin Nunn, Tom Curnow and Derek Rowe, Coober Pedy came in third.

The Kerry Gum Novice Catcher competition was won by Colin Greenfield, Billa Kalina with his ground crew of Andrew Clarke, Allandale, Andrew Napier, Stirling North and Normie Sims, The Peake.

The afternoon brought on the Australian Satellite Services Doubles Competition. In this event two catchers are used, with three ground crew.

The young guns, Jason Jones, Cameron and Matthew Williams and Paul Abbott, still fired up after their Singles win joined with Normie Sims as their other catcher and were able to notch up their second win for the day, catching 5 calves in a time of 3.46.00.


Doubles Winners are Paul Abbott, Nilpinna Station, Normie Sims, The Peake, Cameron Williams, Mt. Barry Station, Jason Jones, Arckaringa Station and Matthew Williams, Hamilton Station.

Colin Greenfield and John Schrader teamed with Charles Webb, Hawker, Robert Baker, Sandringham and Brett Schmidt Nilpinna to take out second place. Tony Williams and Clayton Schmidt, along with Bill Drew, Adelaide, Shane Williams, Carrieton and Tim Williams, Hamilton came third.

The day’s entertainment ended with the Kerry Gum Steer Ride which was won by Lloyd Rankin, Alice Springs and the Adelaide Galvanising Saddle Bronc, won by Clayton Schmidt, with Greg Warren, Oodnadatta in second place.

During the two days of events, the crowd was treated to some sky diving performances, courtesy of WrightsAir at William Creek. A Fly-In, hosted by Trevor Wright brought a number of aeroplanes to the township, including entrepreneur Dick Smith, who had Ian “Macca on a Sunday Morning” McNamara with him.

A Weber Roast tea of Beef and Pork was served at the conclusion of the days events, after which the BC Boys again entertained in the complex. During the evening the Gymkhana Committee President, Randall Crozier presented a cheque for $15,000 as a donation to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, this was accepted by their representative Brenden Eblen.
